Craft Sales at Tybee

We will have buy/sell days at Tybee in the pavilion Wednesday and Thursday from 9 to 12 and we'll even do this Saturday during the tour if there is interest to do so.

We know we have many talented crafters out there and this is a chance to share what you do with other Sisters. If you don't craft--it's a great time to purchase one of a kind gifts for yourself or family and friends!

Come hang out at the pavilion and visit even if you don't buy or sell!

These are a few of the items I will have for sale and I will be taking orders if I run out of stock. I am doing appliqued tea towels in spring, beach colors--tea cozy's, Kampin Kats (dolls), and casserole covers. See you at the sale!

Girlfriends Getaway Savannah and Tybee Island

Follow this link http://savannahvisit.com/groups/itineraries/womens-getaway for tons of stuff to do on Tybee and Savannah with your girlfriends!!

Please take the time to read up on what's in and around this great Historic town! We will not be doing 'packets' this time! Too much 'paper' to be not read and then tossed in the trash. Please take advantage of links on this blog to research what 'you'd' like to do this Sister's trip. You may order a visitors guide if you wish at http://savannahvisit.com/getaways/visitors-guide

Karen and I listened when we were told "not so much planned activites please"! So this time we are only planning an opening and closing party, a few hours of crafts, a tour of our trailers for charity, and maybe some Shag dance lessons. I will set up some optional kayak tours as well.

Beach sittin, just chilling, and visiting are on the agenda this trip!
Tybee is a great place to ride bikes--you can bring yours or rent them on the island by the week or the day.
http://timsbeachgear.com/ or http://www.fattirebikestybee.com/

Check out all the links on the side bar of this blog for more ideas of things to do.
One of our VERY FAVORITE places on Tybee is Hucapoo's Pizza!! The Poo as it is known locally. We will be there A LOT! You can walk there from the campground --at the entrance to the campground--turn left on the sand road! An adventure! and you will arrive at the backside of the Poo! Live music--great pizza, beer, and good salads! Awesome hunk of a pizza man, too (Eric!)
Oh God--give me some help!! LOL! Anyway--many things of historic interest in Savannah (we DO ADVISE) you take a trolly tour---and when on Tybee--slow down---IT'S TYBEE TIME!!!!

Southern Sisters to Raffle Quilt

Southern Sister and crafting Diva--Marvene Maher, Sister # 929 has made us another fabulous quilt to raffle!

It is made with trailer fabric designs surrounding the quilt squares that have different trailers worked in her beautiful HAND embroidery!

Tickets are $5 each or 3 tickets for $10. Proceeds benefit breast cancer research and will be donated to the local (Tybee) Save the TaTa's group.

We will be drawing for this quilt at the Tybee campout on April 10th--but you do not have to be present to win--so sales will be open to all Sisters.

Send your tax deductable donations (and make checks payable to)
Karen LeGlue

Uncle Bubba's Oyster House

Sisters--let me tell you if you are looking for me at Tybee--you'll find me at Uncle Bubba's eating me a bowl of his fabulous shrimp and grits! They are to die for! My favorite thing to eat on the island!! Try the key lime pie too if you have any room left! The shrimp and grits are a large portion--enough to share if you can stand to! LOL!!
This recipe is from the Mike and Juliet morning show, and it is Uncle Bubba's actual version, not Paula Deen's. They are different recipes. Bubba uses bacon in his, Paula uses tasso ham, etc.

UNCLE BUBBA’S SHRIMP AND GRITS

"You can make Uncle Bubba’s Shrimp and Grits too! Below is the recipe that serves 4 to 6 people. Serve and enjoy!"

FOR THE GRITS:
4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) butter
2 teaspoons salt
2 cups quick grits
FOR THE SHRIMP GRAVY:
1/4 cup chopped bacon
1/2 cup diced onion
2 tablespoons each, diced red and green bell peppers
1/4 diced leek
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
36 medium shrimp, peeled, tails removed, and deveined
3/4 cup flour
1/2 cup dry white wine
1 quart heavy (whipping) cream
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

TO PREPARE THE GRITS:
In a medium saucepan on medium-high heat, bring 6 cups water, the butter, and salt to a boil. Slowly whisk in the grits. Continue whisking occasionally for about 5 minutes, until the grits are thick and tender. Remove from the heat and keep warm.

TO MAKE THE SHRIMP GRAVY:
Saute the bacon in a large heavy saucepan over medium-high heat until the fat is rendered.

Stir in the onion, peppers, leek, and garlic and cook until soft. Add the shrimp and stir to combine. Sprinkle in the flour, and stir, making sure all of the flour is well incorporated. Add the wine and cream, stirring well until the sauce has thickened.

In a small bottle or bowl, mix the salt, pepper, and garlic powder and season the gravy to taste.

Serve the shrimp gravy over grits.

TIP: For creamier grits, add a small amount of heavy cream.

Makes 4-6 servings
